Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Spain of hostility and engaging in “diplomatic warfare” following criticism of Israel’s actions and a decision to reopen its embassy in Tehran.
Israel Excludes Spain from Ceasefire Monitoring
Israel has decided to exclude Spain from monitoring the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, citing what it calls an “anti-Israel obsession” of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s government.
The decision was made due to perceived damage to Israeli and American interests, including during the conflict with Iran, and the US was informed.
Netanyahu’s Criticism of Spain
Netanyahu accused Spain of “slandering” Israeli soldiers and declared Israel would not remain silent in the face of attacks.
He stated Israel would not tolerate hypocrisy or hostility and would not allow any country to wage diplomatic warfare against it.
Spain Reopens Embassy in Tehran, Criticizes Israel
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares announced the reopening of Spain’s embassy in Tehran, which had been closed due to the conflict in the Middle East.
Albares also accused Israel of violating the US-Iran ceasefire agreement and international law with its recent attacks on Lebanon.
Sanchez’s Previous Criticism of Trump’s Iran Policy
Prime Minister Sanchez has been a critic of former US President Donald Trump’s policies towards Iran since the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East.
He expressed reservations about the ceasefire between the US and Iran, stating his government would not praise those “who set the world on fire just because they show up with a bucket of water.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Condemns Spanish Bias
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that the Sanchez government’s anti-Israel bias was so severe that it had lost the ability to participate in implementing President Trump’s peace plan and the CMCC operating within it.
