Magyar’s Party Wins Hungarian Election, Orban Concedes

Peter Magyar’s TISZA party secured a constitutional majority in Hungary’s parliamentary elections, prompting congratulations from Viktor Orban and raising questions about the fate of Polish PiS politicians.

TISZA Party Gains Majority, Orban Reacts

The TISZA party, led by Peter Magyar, won a majority in the Hungarian parliamentary elections. Viktor Orban congratulated Peter Magyar on his victory. Journalists from Wyborcza.pl, TOK FM, and RadioZet are reporting live from the scene.

In Sunday’s parliamentary elections, TISZA secured victory, while the Fidesz-KDNP coalition, led by Viktor Orban, received 55 seats in the 199-seat parliament.

Extradition Concerns for Polish Politicians

In February, Magyar stated that, upon forming a government, his party would pursue the extradition of Polish PiS politicians Zbigniew Ziobro and Mariusz Romanowski.

Czarnek Comments on Legal Proceedings

Czarnek stated that legal professionals will determine the fate of Ziobro and Romanowski. He emphasized that the matter is a legal one, not within his purview, during a Monday press conference.

He also referenced Prime Minister Donald Tusk, currently visiting South Korea, who confirmed during a briefing in Seoul that he discussed the two PiS politicians with Peter Magyar before the Hungarian elections, expressing hope they would be “welcomed” to Poland.

Czarnek’s Counter-Proposal and Focus on Healthcare

Czarnek expressed a desire to “welcome Prime Minister Tusk with a law,” referencing his proposed healthcare reform bill. He stated, “Just as Mr. Tusk said he would welcome them to Poland, I would like to welcome Mr. Tusk with this law, which provides treatment.”

He added that the current debate should focus on the lives of Polish patients and healthcare, not the outcome of the Hungarian elections or the fate of the two Polish politicians, reiterating that lawyers will make the decisions.

“The Entire Hungarian Left Voted for Magyar”

During the Monday press conference, Czarnek asserted that “the entire Hungarian left voted for Magyar,” and that this was a matter for the Hungarians. He noted that conservative groups support conservative groups, and leftist groups support leftist groups.

He criticized predictions of election fraud and a forceful resolution, pointing out that Orban conceded defeat within two hours. He stated that Hungarians democratically conducted the elections.

Charges Against Ziobro and Romanowski

Both Romanowski and Ziobro face charges related to the functioning of the Justice Fund during the PiS government. Prosecutors accuse Ziobro of leading a criminal group and abusing his position for criminal activities.

Ziobro is alleged to have committed 26 crimes, including issuing illegal orders to subordinates to ensure that selected entities received funds from the Justice Fund, interfering with tender preparations, and allowing ineligible entities to receive funds.

European Arrest Warrants and Asylum

The first European Arrest Warrant for Romanowski was issued in December 2024, at which time he was granted asylum by the Hungarian government. The EAW was revoked a year later, in December 2025.

Prosecutors filed a new request, and the Warsaw District Court upheld it in February 2026, reissuing the EAW for Romanowski.

To date, the court has not ruled on the prosecutor’s request for an EAW against Ziobro. A wanted notice was issued for him after the Warsaw-Mokotów District Court approved the use of arrest in February of this year, followed by a request for an EAW. Hungarian authorities informed authorities that they granted Ziobro international protection in early January.
