Orlen has begun gas extraction from new wells in Lubelskie and Wielkopolskie voivodeships, increasing annual production by approximately 140 million cubic meters.
Orlen Commences Production from New Wells
Orlen has launched gas production from new wells located in the Lubelskie and Wielkopolskie voivodeships. This move is expected to increase the company’s gas output by around 140 million cubic meters annually.
Strategic Alignment with Orlen 2035
According to Wiesław Prugar, a member of Orlen’s board responsible for Upstream operations, the launch of production from the Jastrzębiec and Sierosław deposits is a key step in implementing the Orlen 2035 strategy. This strategy focuses on the systematic growth of the company’s own natural gas production.
Production Details: Jastrzębiec and Sierosław Deposits
Production has commenced at the Jastrzębiec deposit in Lubelskie voivodeship and the Sierosław deposit in Wielkopolskie voivodeship. These investments are projected to deliver approximately 140 million cubic meters of natural gas in the first year, with stable production anticipated for the following decade.
Mobile Production Unit at Sierosław
At Sierosław, Orlen is utilizing a mobile, containerized production facility, a solution suited for deposits with smaller reserves. This approach limits investment costs and allows for relocation of the facility after exploitation is complete. It is part of Orlen’s exploration and production program for small deposits, aligned with the group’s strategy to 2035.
Sierosław Deposit Characteristics
The Sierosław deposit is situated on the border of the Tarnowo Podgórne and Dopiewo municipalities in Wielkopolskie voivodeship. The newly launched Sierosław-2H well is expected to produce around 40.4 million cubic meters of nitrogen-saturated gas annually, equivalent to over 213,000 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE).
Estimated Reserves at Sierosław
Orlen estimates the total reserves of the Sierosław deposit to be approximately 900 million cubic meters (around 4.7 million BOE) of nitrogen-saturated natural gas, enabling exploitation for several years.
Jastrzębiec Deposit Production Capacity
The Jastrzębiec deposit, located on the border of the Tarnogród and Kuryłówka municipalities in Biłgoraj county, has seen the inclusion of five new wells into production. During peak output, these wells are expected to increase national gas production by approximately 100 million cubic meters (around 645,000 BOE) annually. The total reserves of the Jastrzębiec deposit are estimated at nearly 1 billion cubic meters (around 6.5 million BOE) of natural gas.
Orlen’s Gas Production Targets
Orlen’s strategy for 2025-2035 aims to increase natural gas production from domestic deposits to 4 billion cubic meters annually by 2030.
Orlen’s Corporate Profile
Orlen and its subsidiaries are a multi-energy group with refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania, as well as a network of gas stations in Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, and Austria. The company is also developing oil and gas exploration and production, petrochemicals, and energy sectors, including renewable energy sources, and plans to develop nuclear energy based on small modular reactors (SMR).
