Red card for the Church: Poles back healthcare education over family life instruction

A majority of Poles believe the Catholic Church should not intervene in compulsory health education classes, according to a recent IBRiS poll.

Health education replaces family life education

In the 2025/26 school year, health education has replaced family life education in the curriculum, making it a mandatory subject that supersedes the previous family life instruction.

Church hierarchy concerned about content

The Catholic Church criticized the content, stating that it “poses a threat to the Catholic vision of the family, marriage, and human maturity.” They emphasized that the program’s insufficient coverage of marriage and family, defined as the union of father, mother, and children, regularly marginalizes gender roles.

Poll numbers show broad opposition to Church involvement

The poll results clearly indicate public opinion on this matter, as 66.7% of respondents disagree with the Church’s involvement in school health education. Only 25.7% of respondents agreed with the Church’s stance.
