A 67-year-old Croatian man died during a night of escalating conflict involving Polish nationals near Igrane, Croatia, with both drunk-driving charges and manslaughter charges pending.
Family Incident Triggered by Noise Complaints
The altercation began after neighbor Anisja Šodan confronted a group of partying Polish citizens who had disrupted the night’s peace with loud music. Initially, there was shoving, but the situation quickly escalated when one of the Polish guests pushed 68-year-old Anisja, leading her brother to intervene.
Tragic Outcome and Aftermath
Anisja’s 67-year-old brother Nikša Šodan entered the fray, resulting in a confrontation where both sides sustained injuries. Despite emergency medical assistance being summoned, the brother died from cardiac arrest. The Polish nationals had alcohol levels of 1.92 and 1.12 promile at the time of the incident.
Legal Actions and Incidents
The Polish citizens have been charged with manslaughter, and could face sentences ranging from six months to five years in prison. This incident, however, is not the first in which Polish nationals have faced arrest in Croatia due to similar altercations, with Croatian police called to at least 70 incidents in the last four years.
