Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has established a new association, “Rozwój Plus” (Development Plus), prompting immediate reaction and anxieties within the Law and Justice (PiS) party.
Morawiecki Establishes ‘Rozwój Plus’
Mateusz Morawiecki formally founded the new association “Rozwój Plus,” intended, according to his statement, to serve as a platform for cooperation and exchange of experiences in the area of economic and social development.
The establishment of the new organization immediately triggered a reaction within the Law and Justice party, with concerns arising about potential divisions. The matter became a central topic during an urgently convened meeting of the party leadership.
New Structure Outside Party Frameworks
The former prime minister decided to create a new organizational structure operating outside the formal frameworks of the party. “Rozwój Plus” is intended, as Morawiecki emphasized, to foster dialogue, create development projects, and integrate expert and social environments interested in Poland’s future.
Potential for Parallel Influence
This effectively represents an attempt to create an intellectual and organizational base that can function alongside party structures. Such initiatives in Polish politics have often served as centers of influence or precursors to broader political projects, immediately attracting the attention of political observers.
Ambiguous Political Ambitions
Morawiecki did not explicitly state whether the association has political ambitions, however, its formula – encompassing expert and social activities – provides broad opportunities for building his own sphere of influence.
PiS Expresses Unease
Following the disclosure of information about the creation of “Rozwój Plus,” clear concerns emerged within the leadership of Law and Justice. The issue became serious enough to warrant a special meeting of party authorities to discuss the potential consequences of Morawiecki’s initiative.
Concerns Over Alternative Power Center
According to politicians, most of the PiS leadership received the information with unease. Concerns primarily relate to the risk of creating an alternative center of influence that could weaken the internal cohesion of the grouping.
Błaszczak Warns of Disintegration
Mariusz Błaszczak, referring to the matter, clearly suggested that such actions could lead to divisions. “The association could be used as a form of disintegration of the political environment,” he assessed in a television interview.
Maintaining Unity Amidst New Structures
The former Minister of National Defence emphasized that in the current political situation, maintaining unity within the camp is crucial. In his opinion, creating new structures, even if formally of a social or expert nature, could be perceived as an attempt to build a separate political base.
Past Experiences and Potential Weakening
Błaszczak also drew attention to past experiences, which – as he noted – do not inspire optimism. He pointed out that similar initiatives often ended with a weakening of the political environment, rather than its strengthening.
“We must build an alternative to the government of Donald Tusk and maintain unity,” he stressed.
