Morawiecki Association Triggers Tensions Within PiS; Kaczyński Threatens Exclusion From Lists

Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s new association, “Rozwój Plus,” is causing internal conflict within the Law and Justice (PiS) party, with Jarosław Kaczyński reportedly threatening to remove supporters from electoral lists.

Morawiecki Launches New Association, Faces PiS Criticism

Mateusz Morawiecki announced the establishment of a new association called “Rozwój Plus.” This initiative has met with critical reception within the Law and Justice party.

Rafał Bochenek, a party spokesperson, stated during a meeting of the PiS Political Committee presidium that most members expressed concern over the former prime minister’s actions.

Morawiecki’s Aims and Kaczyński’s Response

Morawiecki stated the association’s goal is to create additional space for dialogue, exchange of experiences, and initiatives supporting Poland’s social and economic development.

Kaczyński initially did not express firm opposition to the initiative, but now reportedly threatens to exclude politicians who join the association from PiS electoral lists, according to TVN24.

Factions Within PiS Emerge

The “maślarze” (butter-makers) group, including former ministers Przemysław Czarnek and Jacek Sasin, along with MEPs Tobiasz Bocheński and Patryk Jaki, are reportedly pushing for this exclusion. They are also supported by Mariusz Błaszczak, Elżbieta Witek, and Beata Szydło.

A separate faction, known as the “harcerze” (scouts), supports Morawiecki and includes Michał Dworczyk, Janusz Cieszyński, Piotr Müller, Waldemar Buda, and Marcin Horała.

Upcoming PiS Meeting and Potential Consequences

Kaczyński has convened another meeting at the PiS headquarters on Nowogrodzka Street for April 16th. The meeting was scheduled for 13:00, and parliamentarians received SMS notifications from the press office.

The urgent meeting is reportedly due, in part, to the difficult financial situation of the grouping, as well as the tensions surrounding the new association.

Initial Members of “Rozwój Plus” Revealed

Wirtualna Polska has published a list of politicians reportedly planning to join “Rozwój Plus,” including Waldemar Buda, Janusz Cieszyński, Michał Dworczyk, Marcin Horała, Paweł Jabłoński, Łukasz Kmita, Anna Kwiecień, Piotr Müller, Łukasz Schreiber, Krzysztof Szczucki, Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, and Ryszard Terlecki.
