Jarosław Kaczyński publicly requested donations from supporters on Thursday, April 16th, citing financial difficulties within the PiS party ahead of upcoming elections.
PiS Faces Financial Challenges
Jarosław Kaczyński announced the party’s financial struggles, stating that long-term avoidance of public appeals for funds is no longer sustainable due to increasing expenses.
He directly appealed to supporters of PiS and the right-wing to contribute to the party’s account, emphasizing that even small donations are valuable.
Kaczyński Confident of Victory, Needs Funds
The PiS leader stressed the party’s confidence in winning next year’s elections but acknowledged that success is impossible without sufficient funding.
Kaczyński stated that current funds are inadequate and that securing resources is crucial for the benefit of Poland.
Recent Financial Setbacks
In 2024, the State Electoral Commission rejected PiS’s financial report from the 2023 parliamentary elections, resulting in a 10 million złoty reduction in the party’s subsidy.
Fundraising During Previous Campaigns
During the 2023 presidential campaign, the electoral committee of candidate Karol Nawrocki, supported by PiS, reported raising over 23 million złoty from citizen donations, with support from over 50,000 donors.
Preparations for 2027 and Czarnak’s Candidacy
Kaczyński’s current appeal for financial support is linked to preparations for the 2027 parliamentary elections and the promotion of Przemysław Czarnak as the party’s candidate for prime minister.
Internal Tensions and Party Strategy
The announcement came amid growing tensions within PiS, including disagreements surrounding Mateusz Morawiecki’s “Rozwój Plus” association.
Kaczyński is reportedly considering consequences for politicians who join the initiative, with potential exclusion from future electoral lists.
Agata Kondzińska reports that Kaczyński convened a meeting of PiS authorities to determine whether to pursue a dual strategy or to radicalize the party.
