A 40-year-old man was arrested in Żuromin County on April 13, 2026, after a high-speed chase and facing multiple charges, including driving with a suspended license and drug possession.
Initial Traffic Stop and Pursuit
On Saturday, April 11, 2026, police in Trzaski (Bieżuń commune) attempted to stop a Ford vehicle for exceeding the speed limit by 38 km/h. The driver failed to stop and accelerated, heading towards Mława County, initiating a police pursuit.
The driver continued to evade authorities, traveling through local roads. Additional patrol units joined the chase. In Bieżuń, an officer attempted to block the vehicle, but the driver drove directly towards the officer, prompting the use of a service weapon. Despite several shots fired, the driver continued fleeing towards Sierpc County.
Arrest and Charges
The driver abandoned the vehicle in Łukomie (Rościszewo commune) and fled on foot, but was apprehended by Żuromin police. He was found to have a driving ban in effect until 2028 and was in possession of mefedrone.
On April 13, 2026, the 40-year-old resident of Sierpc County was charged with failing to stop for a traffic check, reckless speeding, endangering life or causing a catastrophe, violating a court order, and drug possession. This is not his first offense; he received a driving ban in 2021 for a similar infraction.
Recidivism and Detention
Due to his prior conviction, the man will face the charges as a repeat offender. Laboratory results will determine if additional charges related to driving under the influence of drugs will be filed.
The prosecutor requested a three-month pre-trial detention, which the Mława Regional Court granted on April 14, 2026, sending the man to jail.
