Polish Woman Dies After Bicycle Accident in Mallorca

The incident occurred around 2:25 PM on Wednesday, April 15th, on a winding mountain road in Sa Calobra, Mallorca, Spain. According to reports from the newspaper “El Debate,” the Polish cyclist lost control of her bicycle and fell approximately 15 meters.

The newspaper “Ultima Hora” reported that the cyclist landed on a rocky, densely vegetated area.

Rescue Efforts and Confirmation of Death

Unable to call for help herself, the woman’s life depended on the reaction of witnesses who alerted emergency services. Firefighters from the Sóller Mountain Rescue Group, along with medical personnel, quickly arrived at the scene, and a helicopter was dispatched to transport the cyclist to a hospital.

Despite a lengthy resuscitation attempt, and initial hope that her injuries were not life-threatening, the woman succumbed to her injuries. The helicopter was subsequently recalled.

Identification and Notification of Family

Spanish Civil Guard officers arrived to investigate the incident. Initially, identifying the victim proved difficult as she had no identification documents. A breakthrough came with the assistance of a group of Polish cyclists who recognized her.

Once her identity was confirmed, officers went to her hotel to inform her husband, who was vacationing with her.

Dangerous Road Conditions

Mallorca Hora reported that the road where the accident occurred is “dangerous,” with steep inclines causing bicycles to accelerate towards wooded areas. The path then becomes uneven, frequently resulting in serious cyclist falls. The portal Mallorca Hora concluded that the event serves as a reminder of life’s fragility.
