Poland’s Energy Minister announced new maximum fuel prices effective Wednesday, marking the lowest levels since the government’s price-capping program began.
Fuel Price Updates
The latest announcement from the Energy Minister sets the maximum price for 95 octane gasoline at 5.95 złoty per liter, 98 octane at 6.50 złoty, and diesel at 6.75 złoty. These prices represent a decrease from Tuesday’s maximums.
Tuesday’s prices were capped at 6.00 złoty for 95 octane gasoline, 6.54 złoty for 98 octane, and 6.92 złoty for diesel.
Price Decreases
The price reductions are as follows: 95 octane gasoline decreased by 5 groszy, 98 octane by 4 groszy, and diesel by 17 groszy.
Publication and Enforcement
The Energy Ministry publishes daily announcements regarding maximum fuel prices, which take effect the day after publication in the Polish Monitor. Prices remain valid through the next working day, even if falling on a holiday.
Selling fuel above the maximum price is subject to fines up to 1 million złoty, with enforcement carried out by the National Tax Administration.
Price Calculation Methodology
The maximum price is calculated using a formula that includes the average wholesale price of fuel, excise duty, fuel surcharge, a sales margin of 0.30 złoty per liter, and VAT.
Tax Reductions
Currently, a regulation reducing VAT on fuel from 23% to 8% and a regulation lowering excise duty are in effect until April 30th. Excise duty is reduced to the lowest level permitted by the European Union – 29 groszy per liter of gasoline and 28 groszy per liter of diesel.
