Jarosław Kaczyński lauded Sławomir Cenckiewicz following his resignation as head of the National Security Bureau, with reports suggesting Cenckiewicz seeks a position in a future PiS government.
Kaczyński Comments on Cenckiewicz’s Departure
Kaczyński, speaking on TV Republika, described Cenckiewicz as a “remarkable professor” with a broad understanding of society, suggesting he could be helpful in many areas. He noted that the two men know each other well and anticipated a good working relationship.
Cenckiewicz announced his resignation as head of the BBN on Thursday, April 23rd, citing “illegal actions” by Donald Tusk’s government, specifically a disregard for court rulings and denial of access to classified information.
Cenckiewicz’s Support for Czarek and Potential Government Position
Following his resignation announcement, Cenckiewicz posted a photo with Kaczyński on X, stating, “It was a good day! We are fighting.” Kaczyński affirmed that Cenckiewicz would support Przemysław Czarnk in the “extremely important matter” of national defense and security, calling him a specialist in the field.
According to journalist Jacek Gądek, Cenckiewicz had been meeting with Kaczyński to secure a position within a future PiS-Konfederacja coalition government, aiming to become the coordinator of special services and overhaul the agencies. Gądek suggests Cenckiewicz is motivated by past obstacles placed by the current leadership of the SKW.
Internal PiS Discussions and Morawiecki’s Role
Kaczyński also discussed a meeting with former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki held overnight from April 20th to 21st, focusing on the internal divisions within PiS related to the establishment of the Rozwój Plus association, led by Morawiecki.
Kaczyński stated that recent agreements remain in effect, acknowledging that politics is often challenging. He added that all matters regarding the association are clear.
Expanding PiS’s Electoral Appeal
Kaczyński emphasized the need for PiS to appeal to all voter demographics, a position previously advocated by Morawiecki. Morawiecki had criticized recent radical right-wing movements within the party. Kaczyński also highlighted the importance of establishing an expert council and respecting the association’s affairs.
Currently, PiS is working on its election program. Kaczyński noted the importance of a comprehensive program, including a section focused on rural areas, and jokingly suggested that commissioning favorable polls could improve their standing, but stressed the need for hard work.
Cenckiewicz’s Resignation and Allegations
Cenckiewicz justified his resignation by citing the alleged unlawful actions of the Tusk government, specifically the disregard for judicial rulings and the denial of access to classified information. He had previously announced his support for PiS’s prime ministerial candidate, Przemysław Czarnk.
