Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka refuted statements made by President Andrzej Duda and other PiS party members, labeling their claims as disinformation and accusing Duda of acting as an “internet troll.”
Duda’s Claims of Tusk’s Disloyalty Dismissed
Adam Szłapka stated that President Andrzej Duda’s assertion on May 4th that Donald Tusk is “against strengthening Poland’s security” and prioritizes “loyalty to Berlin” is entirely false.
Szłapka emphasized that no such statement was made by Tusk.
Tusk on US Troop Presence
The rebuttal followed Duda’s reference to Tusk’s comments regarding the potential relocation of US troops from Germany to Poland. Tusk had stated Poland should not seek to benefit from potential troop withdrawals from other European nations.
Tusk clarified that US presence is needed not only in Poland but also elsewhere for Polish security, a point Szłapka reiterated, adding Poland will actively seek to increase the number of US troops stationed in the country.
Duda Accused of “Trolling”
Szłapka criticized Duda, stating, “It’s a pity he is ending his political career more like an internet troll.”
TV Republika’s Reporting Challenged
Szłapka also disputed a report from TV Republika alleging Tusk undermined the alliance with the US, attributing the claim to a possible mistranslation of an interview.
He highlighted Tusk’s previous statements emphasizing Poland’s strong pro-American stance and the importance of transatlantic ties.
Czarnek’s Criticism of Mercosur Deal Addressed
Responding to Przemysław Czarnek’s criticism of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement, Szłapka pointed out that the deal was negotiated and supported by previous PiS-led governments under Prime Ministers Beata Szydło and Mateusz Morawiecki.
Sasin’s Unemployment Claims Debunked
Szłapka refuted Jacek Sasin’s claim that unemployment has risen by a million since Tusk took office, stating that unemployment exceeded one million in March 2021 when Sasin was a vice-premier.
He characterized Sasin’s statement as “ordynarne kłamstwo” (an outrageous lie) and easily verifiable as false.
