NFZ Fines Hospital Over Procedure for Senator’s Son; Political Fallout Revealed

The Polish National Health Fund has fined a hospital in Aleksandrów Kujawski 134,000 PLN following irregularities involving the March medical procedure for Senator Tomasz Lenz’s son.

Hospital Fined for Procedural Irregularities

The National Health Fund (NFZ) has identified irregularities at a hospital in Aleksandrów Kujawski regarding a March procedure for the 13-year-old son of Senator Tomasz Lenz. The facility faces a 134,000 PLN fine, though it has a two-week window to appeal the decision.

The investigation follows a report by Wirtualna Polska stating the patient was admitted without waiting in line and outside the standard admissions room. While there were claims of missing medical documentation, Senator Lenz maintains that the procedure followed proper protocols and that he possesses the relevant documents.

Political and Internal Implications

Senator Lenz has declined to comment on the fine, stating that the NFZ’s decision pertains to the relationship between the hospital and the fund. Within the Civic Coalition (KO), the matter is viewed as an image problem given current healthcare struggles, though no immediate consequences are expected for Lenz.

Sources suggest the situation may involve a conflict between Senator Lenz and the hospital director, Mariusz Trojanowski, a fellow KO member. Other reports point to insufficient medical staffing on the day the child was admitted.

Prosecutorial Investigation

The prosecutor’s office in Bydgoszcz is currently conducting two separate investigations. These focus on suspected priority treatment in violation of established procedures, as well as the potential disclosure of medical secrets and unreliable maintenance of medical records.
