Large-Scale Forest Fire and Fatal Crash
Firefighters have been battling a massive forest fire in the Józefów Forest District since Tuesday afternoon, with approximately 300 hectares of forest affected by Wednesday.
The operation involved four Dromader aircraft, four State Forests helicopters, and two Black Hawks; however, a firefighting aircraft crashed during the mission, resulting in the pilot’s death.
Kierwiński: Entire Fire Area Under Control
Minister of Internal Affairs Marcin Kierwiński reported on Thursday that while the situation remains dynamic, the fire area is under control and rain has aided containment efforts.
Strategic efforts are currently focused on securing the area to prevent the fire from spreading east toward technical road number 5, with drones monitoring high-temperature locations.
Clash During Press Conference Regarding Lubelskie Fire
A confrontation occurred between Minister Kierwiński and a TV Republika journalist regarding whether the crashed Dromader aircraft had authorization to fly at dusk.
Kierwiński criticized the reporter for attempting to politicize the crisis and urged the public against the spread of disinformation during the emergency response.
Firefighters Request Food and Drinks
Firefighters from the Józefów Volunteer Fire Department have appealed to the local community via Facebook for “hand-delivered” supplies, specifically energy bars and isotonic drinks.
