A major blaze erupted at the OSI Poland Foodworks facility in Chróścina on Thursday, May 14, 2026, causing a massive roof collapse, millions in damages, and hospitalizing four people.
Industrial Disaster and Emergency Evacuation
Flames soared into the sky as a fire tore through one of the region’s largest beef processing plants. The scale of the destruction is expected to paralyze the enterprise for months to come.
The fire broke out on the evening of Thursday, May 14, 2026. After being alerted by cleaning staff, firefighters were dispatched to the OSI Poland Foodworks facility in Chróścina, located in the Góra district of Lower Silesia.
Structural Collapse and Injuries
The fire spread rapidly across the upper reaches of the 50 by 150-meter structure. The roof construction eventually failed, collapsing into the interior of the building. Dozens of workers were evacuated, but four individuals were injured and required transport to a hospital by emergency medical services.
Battle Against the Elements
A force of 150 firefighters utilizing 45 combat vehicles was deployed to the scene. Due to the high risk of further structural failure, crews were forced to change tactics and fight the blaze exclusively from the exterior.
Despite the intensity of the fire, responders managed to prevent the flames from spreading to the adjacent administrative and office wing. Local authorities from the Góra municipality provided logistical support during the operation.
Assessing the Financial Impact
While fire experts have yet to determine the official cause of the blaze, the extent of the damage is massive. Reports indicate that losses are estimated to be in the millions of zlotys.
