A 13-year-old boy died Saturday evening near Arklickie Lake in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship following an altercation between two groups, with his body discovered by authorities in a marshy, forested area.
Fatal Encounter at Arklickie Lake
Police in Kętrzyn received a report of an altercation between two groups on Saturday evening around 8:00 PM. The incident resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy, whose body was later located in a waterlogged, boggy section of the shoreline.
Circumstances of the Tragedy
According to unofficial reports, the teenager may have been fleeing a group of individuals when he entered the marshland. TVN24 reported that the victim was found lying face-down in the water, in an area where the depth reached waist-level.
Allegations Against Detained Men
Local residents cited by Fakt suggest the conflict began earlier that day as a dispute between the boy, named Mikołaj, and an adult man. Witnesses claim the man’s brothers subsequently pursued the teenager. Four men, aged 30 to 43, have been detained; one was found to have approximately one promille of alcohol in his system, while the other three were sober.
Ongoing Investigation
Police and prosecutors are working to determine the direct cause of death, pending the results of an autopsy. While initial reports indicated attempts were made to save the boy at the scene, those efforts were unsuccessful. Authorities have yet to specify the role of each detained individual in the incident.
Community Support
Marta Kamińska, the head of the Barciany municipality, announced that psychological support will be provided to students in local schools starting Monday. She has officially requested that the public refrain from speculation out of respect for the grieving family.
