Internet influencer Piotr Hancke, known as Łatwogang, is cycling from Zakopane to Gdańsk to raise funds for gene therapy for children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The mechanics of the fundraiser
Piotr Hancke emphasized that the solidarity-based action relies heavily on the engagement of his online audience. He noted that every form of support counts, including simply watching the live stream and the advertisements displayed alongside it.
As of Saturday morning, over 4 million PLN had been raised toward the 12 million PLN goal. The influencer admitted he has no fixed route, with a support team following him in a technical vehicle throughout the journey.
Motivations and the path to Gdańsk
The decision to launch this fundraiser followed the success of a previous campaign. Hancke was inspired by the stories of children with DMD, specifically the case of Maks, who contacted the organizers via email.
Preparing for the trip on short notice, the influencer expects the journey to take approximately 40 hours. Once he reaches Gdańsk, he plans to sleep for 8 to 10 hours before heading back to Zakopane.
A mission for gene therapy
The current fundraiser aims to cover the cost of gene therapy for the child, totaling approximately 15 million PLN. With 3 million PLN raised since October 2025, the remaining target stands at 12 million PLN.
The young beneficiary, Maks Tocki, expressed his initial nervousness about the event, which has since turned into feelings of euphoria and disbelief. Maks is currently a second-grade primary school student.
Past milestones
Łatwogang’s previous charity drive successfully collected over 251 million PLN for the Cancer Fighters foundation. That nine-day broadcast drew a peak audience of over 1.5 million viewers.
