Polish emergency services forced entry into a Gdańsk apartment belonging to the family of Karol Nawrocki on Saturday night after receiving hoax reports of a fire and medical emergencies.
Chronology of the Incident
The Emergency Notification Center received a report at 7:33 p.m. on Saturday regarding a fire and threats to children’s lives at the premises. Three agencies—medical rescue, fire services, and police—were dispatched to the scene. Deputy Interior Minister Czesław Mroczek confirmed that the apartment, which is not protected by the State Protection Service as it is not the official residence of Nawrocki, was entered after a second alert 15 minutes later claimed the children had suffered cardiac arrest.
Emergency teams attempted multiple times to contact the residents before gaining entry via the balcony. Upon arrival, rescuers found the apartment empty and observed no signs of fire or smoke. The flat’s interior windows were covered with foil, obstructing the view from the outside.
Government Response and False Alarm Strategy
Deputy Minister Czesław Mroczek stated that authorities have dealt with over 1,200 similar threats this year, with 300 involving children requiring hospital support. He declared that the perpetrators of these false alerts will not go unpunished. The government is currently refining procedures to verify threats, emphasizing that life-safety alerts remain the highest priority for intervention.
National Police Chief Marek Boroń confirmed that a specialized task force has been investigating a string of recent hoax alerts targeting public figures and journalists. Authorities believe they have identified the leads and expect to report results within hours.
Political Criticism
Presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz criticized the government’s handling of the situation, noting that services breached the door in the absence of the occupants. He argued that authorities have failed to respond effectively to a multi-day campaign of false alarms targeting right-wing public figures and journalists, warning that such threats could soon affect any citizen.
