Passenger Detained After Ride-Share Vehicle Plunges Onto Warsaw Railway Tracks

A ride-share Toyota tumbled off an embankment onto the tracks at the Warszawa Wesoła station early Thursday morning, resulting in the detention of an intoxicated passenger and significant rail travel disruptions.

Incident at Wesoła Station

Emergency services received a report at 3:54 a.m. regarding a Toyota vehicle located on the tracks near the PKP Warszawa Wesoła station. Preliminary findings suggest the vehicle, used for ride-sharing, fell from an embankment while the driver was attempting a reverse maneuver.

Although the incident occurred overnight, authorities arrived to find the driver missing. A man who had placed the call to emergency services remained at the scene, claiming to be a passenger. A breathalyzer test confirmed he had approximately one promil of alcohol in his system, leading to his immediate detention.

Railway Disruptions and Investigation

Firefighters successfully extracted the vehicle from the tracks. During the recovery operation, all rail traffic in the immediate area was suspended, causing subsequent delays of over 30 minutes for SKM lines S1 and S2. Certain S2 trains were truncated to terminate at Warszawa Rembertów or Warszawa Wschodnia.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident, specifically seeking to identify the person who was operating the vehicle when it went over the embankment. Railway infrastructure manager PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe continues to oversee the status of the affected lines.
