Starting June 1, 2026, Poland will implement an annual indexation of unemployment benefits, raising the maximum monthly gross payment to 2,140.68 PLN for qualified applicants with at least 20 years of service.
Eligibility and Requirements
The unemployment benefit is strictly reserved for individuals registered as unemployed at a labor office. Mere termination of employment is insufficient; claimants must prove at least 365 days of work within the preceding 18 months, earning at least the minimum wage, which is set at 4,806 PLN gross for 2026.
The required period can include employment contracts, specific civil law agreements, and self-employment, provided the mandatory contributions to the Labor Fund were paid.
Benefit Payment Tiers
Effective June 1, 2026, the basic benefit for those with less than 20 years of service will be 1,783.90 PLN gross for the first 90 days and 1,400.90 PLN thereafter. Individuals with at least 20 years of service will receive 2,140.68 PLN gross for the first 90 days and 1,681.08 PLN for the remainder of the period.
This adjustment represents a monthly gross increase ranging from 48.70 PLN to 74.28 PLN. Those over 50 with sufficient service history can receive over 25,688 PLN gross in total support if eligible for a full 12-month period.
Duration and Restrictions
The standard benefit duration is 180 days, though certain groups, including those over 50 with 20 years of service, single parents, and large families, may be eligible for up to one year of support. These conditions must be met at the time of initial entitlement.
Payments may be deferred for up to 90 days if the individual resigned from their previous position. Additionally, while short stays abroad of up to 30 days are permitted, benefits are not paid during these absences.
Healthcare and Activation Incentives
Unemployment status grants state-funded health insurance, which also extends to family members who lack their own coverage. While benefit periods count toward retirement contributions, they do not accrue other workplace rights like paid leave.
Individuals who find employment or start a business while receiving benefits can apply for an activation allowance of 892 PLN per month. Furthermore, a relocation bonus of up to 18,395.60 PLN is available for those moving for work, provided they meet specific distance and minimum wage requirements.
