Nawrocki Criticizes Lack of Consultation on Poland-UK Defense Pact

President Karol Nawrocki has criticized the Polish government for failing to inform the presidential office regarding the defense and security treaty signed this Wednesday by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Keir Starmer.

Government communications questioned

President Karol Nawrocki stated that the government should have consulted with his office before entering into commitments on behalf of the Polish nation. He emphasized that the administration failed to notify him while the security and defense treaty was being prepared.

Details of the bilateral agreement

Prime Ministers Donald Tusk and Keir Starmer signed the historic document, which aims to elevate bilateral relations and strengthen mutual security. The treaty mandates that both nations provide assistance in the event of an armed attack, subject to ratification in both countries.

Limited access to information

Nawrocki, currently visiting Switzerland, admitted he learned about the treaty primarily through public reports. He noted that he only received formal information regarding the document on Tuesday thanks to the intervention of a deputy minister.

Review process ahead

Regarding potential ratification, the President declined to commit to a specific course of action until he has fully reviewed the document. He pledged to act in the best interests of Polish security and cooperation with international allies.
