Kidnapper nabbed in Wyszków: From Mazowiecka abduction to hiding under a child’s bed

A 41-year-old man was arrested in the Wyszków district after kidnapping a victim outside a Warsaw nightclub, attempting to extort money, and fleeing police by hiding under a child’s bed.

The Abduction and Extortion Attempt

A 38-year-old man visiting Warsaw for a business trip was approached by a stranger outside a club on Mazowiecka Street who offered to help him call a taxi. The victim was instead shoved into an old BMW and driven through the city, where the assailant physically assaulted him and demanded money transfers and transaction codes.

Failing to secure funds, the attacker stole the victim’s phone and attempted to defraud the man’s wife by posing as her husband, claiming he had gambling debts. After the scheme failed, the perpetrator stole the victim’s watch and phone, abandoning him in a different district of Warsaw. The victim sustained minor head injuries and bruises.

Police Operation and Arrest

Specialists from the Wilcza Street precinct tracked the suspect to the Wyszków district. Upon the arrival of plainclothes officers, the 41-year-old attempted to evade capture by hiding under a child’s bed. He was taken into custody and subsequently moved to a penitentiary facility.

The suspect faces charges of robbery, attempted extortion, attempted fraud, and unlawful detention, which carry a potential sentence of up to 15 years. Additionally, he was already wanted to serve an eight-month sentence for prior theft convictions. His criminal history includes previous records for assault, robbery, and theft. The case is being supervised by the Warsaw Śródmieście-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office.
