Prosecutors have launched an investigation into the death of a 46-year-old man who passed away after a police intervention in Płock on the morning of Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Circumstances of the Intervention
The Płock police dispatch received reports early Saturday regarding a naked, bleeding man acting erratically near Czwartaków Street. Witnesses reported the individual lying at a bus stop, writhing, and later shouting near a hardware store.
Upon arrival, officers found the man behaving irrationally and failing to follow commands before becoming aggressive. Prosecutors suggest his behavior may have been influenced by psychoactive substances.
Police Custody and Medical Crisis
According to Płock District Prosecutor Bartosz Maliszewski, officers handcuffed the man with his hands behind his back while awaiting an ambulance. Despite their presence, the man remained uncooperative and attempted to break free.
When a second patrol arrived to provide support, the man’s condition suddenly deteriorated. He stopped breathing, prompting officers to remove the handcuffs and begin resuscitation efforts, which were continued by paramedics but ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Ongoing Investigation and Evidence
Authorities have secured body-worn camera footage and municipal surveillance recordings. During a search of the deceased’s home, investigators discovered narcotics, cash, and substances believed to be anabolic steroids.
A forensic pathologist has been appointed to perform a comprehensive autopsy, including toxicological and histopathological examinations. The investigation is currently proceeding in rem regarding potential abuse of power and involuntary manslaughter, with no formal charges filed against any individuals at this stage.
