Helicopter Crash in Lesser Poland: Wreckage and Pilot Recovered

Search and rescue teams located the wreckage of a Robinson R44 helicopter and the pilot’s body on the slopes of Mount Lubogoszcz in the Limanowa district following a commercial flight.

Discovery of the Wreckage

The wreckage was discovered shortly before 8:00 AM on the slopes of Mount Lubogoszcz in the Mszana Dolna municipality. Authorities confirmed that the pilot, a 30-year-old Polish national, did not survive the impact; due to the severity of his injuries, first aid efforts were abandoned.

Emergency Search Operations

Polska Żegluga Powietrzna reported a loss of contact with the pilot at approximately 3:00 AM on Thursday. The search operation involved police, firefighters, and GOPR rescue teams, though heavy fog severely restricted the use of drones and aerial support in the difficult mountain terrain.

Investigation into the Tragedy

The aircraft involved in the crash was identified as a four-seat Robinson R44 light helicopter, which had been performing a commercial flight from Hungary to Poland. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation by the prosecutor’s office and the State Commission on Aircraft Accident Investigation.
