Mazovian Police Launch Road Safety Campaign Ahead of Mandatory Helmet Law

The Mazovian Police have released a powerful awareness campaign titled “5 Seconds to Change Your Life,” highlighting the dangers of electric scooter misuse ahead of new mandatory helmet regulations for minors.

A Warning from the Emergency Room

The campaign, produced in collaboration with the Mazovian Specialist Hospital in Radom, focuses on the consequences of irresponsible electric scooter use. Its presentation at a hospital emergency department emphasizes the harsh reality faced by road accident victims.

The video features a young rider speeding without a helmet, leading to a serious accident and subsequent hospitalization. The message focuses on the life-altering impacts of a single moment of negligence rather than graphic imagery.

New Legal Requirements for Minors

Starting June 3, 2026, Polish law will mandate the use of protective helmets for children and teenagers under the age of 16. This requirement applies to those riding bicycles, electric scooters, and personal transport devices, as well as children transported in bike trailers.

Parents and legal guardians bear the responsibility for compliance. Failure to ensure a child under 16 wears a helmet can result in a fine of up to 100 PLN.

Promoting Road Safety Culture

Authorities identify head trauma as one of the most frequent and severe injuries among electric scooter users. Police urge all users to prioritize caution and strict adherence to traffic regulations.

The campaign emphasizes the role of parents in educating children. Through dialogue and setting a personal example, guardians are encouraged to influence safer behaviors among younger road users.
