Special Forces Command Denies Security Breach Over Published Photos

The Polish Special Forces Command has officially dismissed allegations that the National Security Bureau compromised operational security by posting images of commandos and special service officers on social media.

Official Stance on Operational Security

In a statement released via Facebook, Special Forces Component Command spokesperson Lt. Col. Mariusz Łapeta rejected claims that the published photos contained classified information. He asserted that the images did not feature operators on covert missions or individuals whose identities remain unknown to the public.

The spokesperson explained that the individuals in the photographs were performing official and representative duties. Consequently, their images do not constitute classified information or data requiring special protection for operational security purposes.

Procedural Compliance in Media Handling

Lt. Col. Łapeta emphasized that the photos were captured during an official, public event documented in accordance with established public communication standards. Differences between versions of images, such as those released by the General Staff with blurred faces, are attributed to internal material preparation processes rather than security failures.

The command maintains that security assessments are performed by specialized units prior to publication. No evidence was found suggesting that the release of these specific materials could result in the disclosure of protected information or jeopardize personnel safety.

Defense Ministry and National Security Bureau Dispute

The National Security Bureau (BBN) stated it received the photos from the event organizers without specific instructions to blur faces, noting the organizers did not see any contraindications for public release. The BBN rejected the allegations made by Onet as unfounded.

Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz publicly contradicted this, labeling the publication of the commandos’ images as unacceptable. He argued that BBN officials should prioritize security duties over political disputes with the Ministry of National Defense.
