Search and Discovery Operation

The helicopter disappeared from radar screens overnight between Wednesday and Thursday. The aircraft had departed from Hungary and was scheduled to land at an airport in Zator, located in the Wadowice district.

The wreckage was located shortly before 8:00 a.m. Rescuers found the pilot’s body at the scene, but due to the severity of the injuries, first aid could not be administered, reported Junior Brigadier Wojciech Bogacz of the Limanowa County State Fire Service.

Identification of the Pilot

The wreckage was discovered on the slopes of Mount Lubogoszcz within the Mszana Dolna municipality. While the identity was initially unknown, Chełm Mayor Jakub Banaszek confirmed on Thursday evening that the victim was former volleyball player Błażej Czarnecki.

Czarnecki, who played as an outside hitter for CHKS Chełm (Arka Tempo Chełm) between 2020 and 2022, had transitioned to a career as a pilot in recent years. Mayor Banaszek extended condolences to the pilot’s father and family.
