Fatal Crash Near Warsaw: Audi May Have Exceeded 200 km/h

A tragic collision occurred on Saturday, June 6, near Warsaw, when a Honda performed an illegal U-turn, resulting in a crash that killed two men and left a third in critical condition.

Circumstances of the collision

The accident took place on Saturday, June 6, at approximately 7:40 p.m. According to the prosecutor’s office, the driver of a Honda made an illegal U-turn from the far-right lane, which is designated for right turns only. The vehicle subsequently collided with an Audi traveling straight in the left lane.

Following the impact, the Audi veered off the road and struck a traffic light pole. Three occupants of the Audi sustained injuries; two men aged 22 and 23 died, while a 24-year-old remains in critical condition.

Investigation into the Audi’s speed

Investigations by TVN24 journalist Robert Zieliński indicate the Audi’s speedometer stopped at 185 km/h at the time of the crash. Experts suggest this implies the vehicle may have been traveling at speeds exceeding 200 km/h, as the gauge could have decelerated after the initial impact.

A serving traffic police officer noted that crash reconstructions are performed in fractions of a second, and the speedometer reading may have been captured after velocity was already being lost. The speed limit at the intersection where the accident occurred is 70 km/h.

Status of the Honda driver

The driver of the Honda is a 37-year-old Turkish national who was operating the vehicle for a ride-sharing application. Police confirmed the driver was sober and held a valid driving license at the time of the incident.

It was further determined that the driver did not complete the full training and examination procedure in Poland. Instead, he held a Polish license based on the transposition of his Turkish driving credentials in accordance with international regulations.
