Poland’s Public Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek met with National Audit Office President Marian Banasiem on September 8, regarding the GetBack scandal, which unmasked major financial abuses.
Prosecutor’s Communication
Public Prosecutor Anna Adamiak confirmed that Żurek met with Banasiem, who submitted a notice about potential crime based on NIK’s findings from their control of Capitea S.A. (formerly GetBack) monitoring from 2016-2023, including associated entities.
National Audit Office Revisits GetBack Scandal
NIK previously called for a parliamentary investigative commission into the matter, pointing out that authorities’ failure to solve the 3.5 billion złoty fraud over 7 years harmed thousands of citizens. Banasiem described it as “one of the most shocking financial scandals in Poland’s history.”
GetBack Scandal Background
The scandal in 2018 revealed massive abuses, with GetBack transferring funds through fake contracts and selling dubious bonds, deceiving citizens. It exposed systemic failings in financial supervision and public protection.
