Russian forces bombed pensioners waiting in a queue for retirement payments in Donbas, resulting in the deaths of over 20 people, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Bomb Attack in Donbas
On September 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported a catastrophic incident on the eastern side of the country where Russian forces dropped a bomb on pensioners receiving retirement payouts. The President stated, “It’s brutal, it’s barbaric, a Russian airstrike on the village of Yarova in the Donetsk region. Directly on people, ordinary civilians. At the moment they were receiving their pensions.” He also shared a short video from the attack site.
Ukrainian President’s Appeal
Zelensky called for a strong international response to the attacks, saying, “Such Russian attacks cannot remain without the appropriate reaction of the world. Russia continues to destroy lives while avoiding new, strong sanctions and decisive actions.” He urged the United States, Europe, and G20 nations to take immediate action to pressure Russia into stopping the spread of death.
Russia Prepares for Donbas Offensive
Sources indicated that Russia is preparing for an offensive in the Donetsk region, with attacks reported in the areas of Kramatorsk and Słowiańska. Ukrainian military forces have pushed back Russian forces from several locations near Pokrowska, and Ukrainian forces have regained approximately 26 square kilometers of territory in the Pokrowsky direction.
