E-scooter Rider Hits Pedestrian Crosswalk in Krakow Accident

A Ukrainian citizen, 21, driving an e-scooter fatally hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk on Krakow’s Bielan district Tuesday at 7:10 PM, causing a collision with a Toyota driven by a 64-year-old Tajikistan citizen. Both parties were sober and lawfully authorized to operate their vehicles.

Initial Investigation

ERT police are investigating an accident involving an electric scooter and a Toyota that occurred at the intersection of Kochanowskiego and Zgrupowania AK „Żyrafa” streets in Krakow’s Bielany district. The incident occurred at approximately 7:10 PM yesterday when the 21-year-old Ukrainian e-scooter rider entered a pedestrian crosswalk, only to be struck by a Toyota driven by a 64-year-old Tajikistan citizen.

Vehicle and Injury Details

The impact severely damaged the front of the Toyota and its windshield. The e-scooter rider sustained visible injuries and was transported to a hospital by emergency medical services. The Toyota driver was sober and properly licensed to operate his vehicle.

Police Procedure

Two traffic unit teams and medical emergency responders were present at the scene. Due to the nature of the incident, the police limited traffic to one direction at the crossing to conduct their investigation. Polish authorities reminded the public that Polish traffic laws prohibit the crossing of pedestrian crosswalks on electric scooters, with operators required to dismount and walk their e-scooters on the designated walkways.
