Polish President’s Office chief Jarosław Kaczyński disagrees with US President Donald Trump’s assessment that Russia’s drone incursion into Polish airspace was a “mistake.”
Trump’s Initial Reaction
When questioned about the Russian drone incursion, US President Donald Trump explained, “It could have been a mistake. But regardless of that, I am not satisfied with anything related to this situation.”
Kaczyński’s Unambiguous Response
Asked about Trump’s remarks, Polish President’s Office chief Jarosław Kaczyński responded, “I have a different opinion. This was not a mistake. However, I do not wish to further comment on President Trump’s remarks.”
Kaczyński Emphasizes Russian Drones
Stressing the authenticity of the drones, Kaczyński said, “These were Russian drones. The rest is mere propaganda. Russia tries everything to sow discord internally and with other nations. There are also forces within Poland [that] make use of this.” He also acknowledged “a powerful initiative aiming to negatively influence our social awareness,” adding that “the Russians are good at such activities.”
Trump’s Follow-up Comments
In a later interview with Fox News, Trump addressed the matter of Russian drones in Poland again: “I won’t defend anyone, but they were shot down and they crashed (into Polish airspace). In general, they shouldn’t be near Poland.” He also discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine, mentioning his waning patience for Russian President Vladimir Putin: “My patience with Putin is running out quick,” Trump said, adding that “both sides need to engage in negotiations and reach an agreement.”
