Ryanair Implements New Boarding Rules, High Penalties

Ryanair, one of Europe’s largest low-cost airlines, has introduced new mandatory online boarding rules, with high penalties for non-compliance.

New Online Boarding Protocol

Ryanair, following its March 2025 announcement, has mandated electronic boarding passes accessible through their mobile app. Effective November 3, 2025, all passengers will be required to use this system, with a 75 euro (approximately $320) fine for non-compliance, which will be waived only in exceptional circumstances such as phone loss or battery failure.

Increased Baggage Limits

Effective September 3, 2025, Ryanair has expanded the dimensions for carry-on bags to 40x30x20 cm, which is a 33% increase compared to the European Union limit of 40x30x15 cm. Passengers exceeding these dimensions will face fines up to 75 euros ($320), depending on the route and travel date.

Ahead of Schedule Changes

Ryanair has also introduced a new requirement for passengers to be at the airport at least 40 minutes before their scheduled departure. In the event this guideline is not followed, fines up to 100 euros ($426) may be imposed.
