Andrzej Duda at “Gazety Polskiej” Club Meeting: Clash Over Presidential Powers and Arrests

Former Polish President Andrzej Duda faced tense questions at a “Gazety Polskiej” club meeting about his handling of politically motivated arrests and his absence during controversial security incidents.

Former President’s Tough Questions

At the meeting in Sulejów, Andrzej Duda answered questions about his lack of presence during security incidents at the Presidential Palace. Critic Adam Borowski asked him about his inaction during a 2023 law breaking incident.

Controversial Arrests

Duda defended his decision to not defend the Constitution and the absence of PiS lawmakers during the arrests of Maciej Wąsika and Mariusz Kamiński. He argued that PiS lawmakers have parliamentary immunity.

Wąsika and Kamiński, former officials from the Zjednoczonej Prawicy government, were arrested on January 9, 2024, in the Presidential Palace after being charged in the “gruntowa” affair. They were later pardoned by Andrzej Duda.
