Storms and Heavy Rain Moving Through Poland: Flood Alert Issued for 14 Voivodeships

Poland’s meteorological agency has issued weather warnings for fourteen provinces due to severe storms and heavy rainfall expected to bring up to 40mm of rain in some areas.

Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Forecasted

The Meteorological Institute has warned of rainfall ranging between 20-30mm, with localized areas in the east and center expected to receive up to 40mm of precipitation, accompanied by thunderstorms across the country.

Alerty IMGW for Multiple Regions

Warnings have been issued for the following voivodeships: Mazowieckie, Świętokrzyskie, Lubelskie, Łódzkie, Opolskie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Śląskie, Małopolskie, and Podkarpackie, as well as selected counties in Pomorskie, Podlaskie, Wielkopolskie, and Dolnośląskie.

Opinions on the Benefits of Rain

Previously, meteorologists noted that the rainfall did not indicate a shift in weather patterns but rather a necessary replenishment of water resources to address the hydrological drought in Poland. In early September, the water level in the Vistula River in Warsaw dropped to record lows of 4 centimeters.
