In the village of Russocice, a car wreck was found submerged in an old coal pit water reservoir, containing two bodies.

Initial reports indicate the vehicle belonged to a couple planning a trip to a sanatorium. Earlier in the day, their family from the municipality of Władysławów called to express concern, as they had to transport a 77‑year‑old man and his 75‑year‑old wife to the sanatorium. Upon arrival, they found neither the seniors nor the car; thus, they reported the incident to the police, according to Justyna Grabowska, a junior officer at the Turk County Police Headquarters.

Wheel Traces

Police found wheel traces in the nearby Russocice area indicating the couple’s car had entered the water reservoir, which is located in the former coal mine. On the sandy ground near the road, there were visible wheel marks, plastic car parts, and a license plate, said Grabowska.

Detailed Information

Diving teams from Konin and firefighters equipped with sonar were dispatched. After surveying, it was confirmed that the vehicle lies approximately five meters below the water surface, about ten meters from the shore. Current efforts are underway to retrieve it, stated reserve captain Błażej Walkowski, a press officer for the Turku fire department. It was also confirmed that two bodies were inside the car; their identities will be determined.
