Kaczynski vs Breza: “I Assume He Has a Remnant of Honor”

The court case between Polish politicians Jarosław Kaczynski and Krzysztof Breza begins in Warsaw, with accusations of defamation over claims made in relation to the Pegasus scandal investigation.

Status of the Case

The case was initiated by Breza following Kaczynski’s comments during the Pegasus Commission hearings, where Kaczynski accused Breza of “very serious and repulsive criminal acts.” The Sejm earlier this year removed Kaczynski’s parliamentary immunity to face trial.

Breza’s Statement

“I assume he (Kaczynski) has a remnant of honor within him and will have the courage to come and defend his position. I don’t believe he’s a coward and I expect he can argue his lies and fabrications,” Breja said in a TVP Info program.

The Broader Context

He emphasized the case goes beyond merely seeking an apology and a financial penalty, aiming to expose a system built by previous populist administrations to attack and destroy innocent individuals. Similar cases against former TVP-PiS and Samuel Pereira have been won by Breza’s team already.

Kaczynski and His Circle

Breza also highlighted the issue as one of Kaczynski’s circle, stating it involved a system to discredit and destroy individuals including Barbara Blida and Andrzej Lepper. He called for effective oversight over law enforcement agencies to prevent illegal surveillance of citizens for political reasons.
