Poland Seeks Details on EU’s Anti-Drone Wall and Tougher Russia Sanctions

Polish officials pressed the EU for specifics on a proposed anti-drone wall and additional sanctions on Russia during a meeting on September 16.

Anti-Drone Wall on the Eastern Flank

Poland has requested that the European Union provide detailed information on a proposed anti-drone wall along its eastern border, following a recent incident where Russian drones entered Polish airspace.

The request was made during a meeting of EU ministers on September 16, where they discussed the issue and potential responses.

Tougher Sanctions on Russia

Poland is among countries pushing for a new package of sanctions against Russia, with a focus on restricting Russian oil and gas exports, as well as its “shadow fleet.”

The EU’s efforts to increase pressure on Russia come as Hungarian and Slovakian resistance to stricter sanctions remains a challenge.

Danish European Affairs Minister Marie Bjerre emphasized the need for tougher sanctions, particularly on Russian oil and gas exports.

Recent Drone Incidents

On September 9-10, Polish airspace was breached by multiple drones, prompting a defensive response and commitments of support from several EU countries.

In response to these incidents, EU officials have pledged to bolster Poland’s defenses, including the potential deployment of additional military assets.
