Ukrainian Drone Pilot to be Deported After Illicit Flight Near Royal Łazienki

A 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen was detained and will be deported after flying a drone illegally near Warsaw’s Royal Łazienki, violating Polish aviation laws.

Incident Details

On September 15, around 7:00 PM, a 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen launched a DJI drone near the Hotel Belvedere at Royal Łazienki, breaching the DRA-RL0463 P21S restricted airspace, which required prior consent from the State Protection Service (SOP).

Detention and Charges

The SOP detected the unauthorized flight and, along with the police, apprehended the 21-year-old and his 17-year-old Belarusian companion. The Ukrainian citizen faced charges under the Aviation Law (Article 212) and opted for a fine of 4,000 PLN.

Deportation and Consequences

The Prosecutor’s Office submitted a request to the Border Guard to escort the Ukrainian citizen out of the country, leading to a decision to deport him and impose a five-year ban on entering Poland and the Schengen Zone.

Investigation and Findings

The Internal Security Agency analyzed the incident for potential espionage, examining the phones of the detained individuals for possible connections. However, no evidence was found to suggest they were acting on behalf of a foreign intelligence service.
