In Kherson, Ukraine, civilians are facing a new wave of terror from Russian drone attacks, with 114 killed and 1,149 injured in 2025 alone.
The New Reality of War
Kherson, a city in Ukraine, has been under constant threat since its liberation from Russian occupation in November 2022. Despite initial relief from artillery fire, the city has been subjected to massive drone attacks since August 2024.
Anton Yefanov, deputy head of the Kherson City Military Administration, describes the situation as “terror,” with drones targeting civilians, cars, and infrastructure.
Casualties and Destruction
In 2023, 168 people were killed and 799 injured in Kherson due to Russian attacks. In 2024, the numbers increased to 117 killed and 1,180 injured. In 2025, as of August 25, 114 people have been killed and 1,149 injured.
The attacks have not only caused human casualties but also damaged the city’s infrastructure and disrupted daily life.
Humanitarian Efforts
Despite the challenges, humanitarian efforts are ongoing in Kherson. Social services, psychological support centers, and shelters for domestic violence victims are still operational.
The city has also received support from Polish organizations, including the Polish Center for International Aid, which has provided essential supplies and transportation for people with limited mobility.
Transportation Under Attack
Transportation has become a critical issue in Kherson, with Russian drones targeting vehicles and infrastructure. A truck carrying humanitarian aid was recently destroyed, and a minibus was attacked, resulting in injuries and fatalities.
The situation remains critical, but Yefanov emphasizes that the city will not be surrendered, and efforts to provide aid and support to civilians will continue.
