Warsaw Deputy Mayor Resigns Over Nighttime Prohibition Dispute

Warsaw Deputy Mayor Jacek Wiśnicki has resigned over a dispute with Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski regarding the implementation of a city-wide nighttime alcohol prohibition.

Resignation Announced

Wiśnicki announced his resignation after Mayor Trzaskowski withdrew a project to introduce a city-wide nighttime prohibition and instead proposed a pilot solution limited to Śródmieście and Praga-Północ.

Reasons for Resignation

Wiśnicki was a proponent of a full introduction of the nighttime alcohol ban in Warsaw. He expressed regret over the decision to limit the scope of the prohibition, calling the new solution “a facade.”

Due to his responsibilities, including social issues, Wiśnicki felt he could no longer be “the face of social policy” in the city when the authorities’ actions went against his views.

Statement from the Former Deputy Mayor

Wiśnicki stated, “I did not sign up for this, and I will not be the face of such scenes. I entered politics because I believed it was possible to act on different principles, in loyalty to my own views. I remain with that naivety.”
