A mysterious incident in Wyryki, Poland, has sparked multiple theories, with suggestions ranging from a Russian drone to a Polish missile, but authorities have yet to confirm the cause.
Initial reports suggested a Russian drone had crashed into a house in Wyryki after being shot down. Later, media speculation pointed to a Polish F-16 fighter jet’s missile, possibly an AIM-120 AMRAAM, which could have malfunctioned and hit the building without detonating.
Theories abound, with some suggesting a Russian air-to-air missile, while others propose that a Polish F-16’s missile could have been the culprit. Despite these claims, neither the military nor the prosecutor’s office has made a definitive statement on the cause of the destruction.
Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, coordinator of special services, suggested that evidence pointed to a Polish missile used in defense of the country’s territory.
However, the Strefa Obrony portal reports that available photographs may indicate another possibility. A fragment resembling a wing component, smooth, narrow, and with a characteristic shape, was found. Commentators note this doesn’t match typical Russian Shahed drones or AIM-120 missiles, which have only small stabilizers.
The fragment bears similarity to parts of a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile, specifically its wing. This theory remains unconfirmed, with services still officially investigating the incident.
The incident sparked a dispute over information sharing, with President Karol Nawrocki calling for full explanations from the government. The Presidential Security Bureau (BBN) stated the head of state was not adequately informed.
The Ministry of National Defense (MON) responded that all data were being shared in real-time. Marcin Przydacz noted that briefings lacked clear findings, and President Nawrocki lacked full knowledge of the event until after media publication.
