Warsaw Police Commander Faces Possible Dismissal

Warsaw’s police commander, Dariusz Walichnowski, may be dismissed due to a negative assessment of his work, with a formal request submitted to the Ministry of Interior and Administration.

Reasons Behind the Dismissal

The potential dismissal of Warsaw’s police commander, Dariusz Walichnowski, is reportedly due to his failure to address issues within the police unit, including a staffing crisis and concerns over his approach to personnel matters.

Walichnowski had pledged to address these issues when he took office in April of last year, but his efforts have been deemed insufficient.

Procedure for Dismissal

The process for Walichnowski’s dismissal began on September 15, when the chief of police submitted a request for an opinion on his dismissal to the Mazovian Voivode and the Mayor of Warsaw.

Both officials have expressed support for Walichnowski’s dismissal, and the request has been forwarded to the Ministry of Interior and Administration, where a decision is expected.

Potential Replacement and Connection to Alcohol Ban

According to unofficial reports, Walichnowski’s position may be taken by Waldemar Wołowiec, with sources suggesting that one of Walichnowski’s deputies may also be considered.

The potential dismissal has been questioned in relation to a proposed ban on alcohol sales in Warsaw, but the Deputy Minister of Interior has stated that linking the two is “absolutely not justified.”
