Drone sightings near Copenhagen and Oslo airports prompted unexpected closures, affecting thousands of passengers.
Copenhagen’s airport was closed on Monday evening after several large, unidentified drones were spotted in the area. The airport has since reopened, but passengers are advised to check for updates as delays and cancellations may still occur.
The drones, described as large and not hobbyist machines, were reportedly operated by a specialized operator and approached the airport from different directions.
The Danish police have launched an intensive investigation, suspecting the operator may have been trying to demonstrate their skills. The closure affected around 20,000 passengers, with about 35 flights redirected to other airports.
Oslo’s airport was also closed due to drone sightings, with all flights redirected to the nearest airport. It has since reopened, and authorities are cooperating to determine if there’s a connection between the incidents.
Last week, Brussels’ international airport was paralyzed by a cyberattack, affecting electronic check-in and boarding systems. Similar incidents occurred in Berlin, London, and Dublin, with the EU’s cybersecurity agency confirming the attacks.
