Abu Dhabi to Cover Costs for Tourists Stranded by Airport Closures

The Abu Dhabi government will cover accommodation and meal expenses for tourists stranded by airport closures due to regional airspace restrictions.

Government Announces Coverage for Stranded Tourists

According to official communications directed at hotels, guests whose travel plans were disrupted for reasons beyond their control will not be charged additional accommodation and meal costs. These expenses will be covered by the government Department of Culture and Tourism of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Over 20,000 Passengers Affected

The decision includes coordination with local airlines and airport authorities, which have canceled or delayed many international flights due to airspace closure amid escalating regional conflict. According to communications, more than 20,000 passengers have been transferred from airports to accommodation facilities, with authorities committed to covering both accommodation and meal costs until conditions allow for further travel.

Airspace Closure Due to Regional Conflict

The closure of airspace over the United Arab Emirates is a consequence of the growing wave of rocket attacks and retaliations in the Middle East region in recent days. Airlines and airports have been forced to suspend operations, resulting in tourists and transit passengers being stranded in hotels and temporary centers.

Hotels Directed to Extend Stays Without Additional Charges

The Abu Dhabi government has issued formal guidelines to hotel managers to extend stays for affected guests, without charging additional accommodation fees beyond their original check-out date. Hotels are to send invoices for extended stays directly to the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, which will cover all costs.
