A deputy coordinator of special services stated that ABW agents did not participate in any training organized by Zondacrypto, responding to allegations of prior collaboration.
Zondacrypto Training Allegations Denied
Deputy Coordinator of Special Services, Brigadier General Radosław Kujawa, informed the Sejm on Wednesday that officers of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) did not participate in any training organized by Zondacrypto, nor by individuals working for the institution.
Kujawa was responding to questions from PiS MPs regarding reports that Zondacrypto, allegedly linked to Russia according to Donald Tusk, and related entities had been conducting training for ABW, CBŚP, KAS, prosecutors from the National Prosecutor’s Office, and regional prosecutors since 2023.
ABW Training Primarily Conducted In-House
Kujawa stated that “The Internal Security Agency, as the only institution, reports to the coordinating minister. Its officers did not participate in any training organized by Zondacrypto, nor by individuals working for the institution.”
When asked who then trained ABW officers, Brigadier General Kujawa said that “most of the training is conducted in-house.” He added he could not provide detailed information regarding the scope of training, whether it was basic, specialized, departmental, or in cooperation with the prosecutor’s office, concerning cryptocurrencies.
Cryptocurrencies Linked to Criminal Activity and Foreign Intelligence
Kujawa noted that “for us, cryptocurrencies are primarily an area used by criminal environments and foreign intelligence services.”
He also pointed out that “subversive activities carried out on Polish territory were paid for via cryptocurrencies,” explaining why ABW is involved in this area.
Criminal Investigation into Zondacrypto Launched
The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice has initiated a criminal investigation into the cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, concerning potential fraud and money laundering.
The prosecutor’s office stated that the current estimated damage in the Zondacrypto case is at least 350 million złoty, with complaints coming from across the country. The investigation focuses on “misleading many people regarding the possibility of purchasing and storing fiat and cryptocurrencies within the Zondacrypto exchange, thereby causing unfavorable disposal of property.”
