A passenger’s attempted entry into a train at Warsaw’s Centrum station caused the entire M1 metro line to shut down across Śródmieście and Mokotów, triggering emergency response and replacement bus routes.
Accident at Centrum Station
At 8:57 a call reached the Municipal Transport Authority after a 50‑year‑old man tried to storm the platform and board an approaching M1 train. Firefighters confirmed the incident, evacuated the passenger, and handed him to medical services. He was transported to a hospital in an unconscious state.
Impact on Metro Service
The whole M1 line was suspended, with seven stations—Wierzbno, Racławicka, Pole Mokotowskie, Politechnika, Centrum, Świętokrzyska, and Ratusz Arsenał—closed. Trains are now operating on two loops: Kabaty–Wilanowska and Młociny–Dworzec Gdański.
Emergency Response and Medical Evacuation
At the scene, three firefighting crews, police, a medical rescue team, and the metro’s own fire brigade worked together to secure the area and evacuate the victim. The coordination was led by the Municipal Transport Authority, which announced the disruptions shortly after 9 a.m.
Transportation Alternatives
To compensate, the city activated the “ZA METRO” bus line, providing replacement routes across the districts affected by the lockdown.
