Details of MP Litewka’s Fatal Accident
The incident occurred on April 23 after 1:00 PM on Kazimierzowska Street in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The Municipal Police Headquarters in Dąbrowa Górnicza reported the accident at the time. Investigators stated that the 57-year-old driver of a passenger car swerved into the oncoming lane, resulting in a head-on collision with cyclist Łukasz Litewka.
“We have the moment of the car colliding with the MP’s bicycle precisely established; it was 1:14 PM. The MP was on a call from 1:07 PM to 1:14 PM. The witness (the person on the phone with the MP) stated that the MP’s voice suddenly cut out. We identify this as the moment of the collision,” reported Bartosz Kilian, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sosnowiec, in an interview with PAP. He noted that the MP was using headphones and not holding the phone, therefore there are no grounds to assume he violated regulations.
The MP’s life could not be saved. Officers determined that the driver was sober. The driver was charged with unintentional causing of a fatal road accident. Apart from the man, no other individuals were detained by the police.
