Winner Profile: Agnieszka Sikora

Journalist and re‑education pedagogue Agnieszka Sikora leads the Fundacja po DRUGIE, supporting 18‑ to 25‑year‑old former homeless youth. For over 14 years she has aided young people who lacked adult care, founded Poland’s first Youth Centre, and lobbied for residency rights for mothers with children in youth rehabilitation facilities.

Statement by the Laureate

Sikora thanked the jury and supporters, noting the importance of addressing youth homelessness—a crisis she often finds herself confronting. She added that she had not planned to work in this field when founding the foundation, but young people’s needs guided her, and she and her team now help them.

About the Plebiscite

The Warsaw Woman of the Year contest recognises women who positively transform the city through social, professional, or civic activities. Nominations celebrate solidarity, growth, professionalism, resilience, and courage. Aldona Machnowska‑Góra, city vice‑president, highlighted the privilege of spotlighting such extraordinary women.

Nominations and Past Winners

The jury selected nine finalists from many entries, each demonstrating passion and determination to change the community. In total, residents voted more than 23,000 times. This year’s nominees also included Magdalena Bigaj, Paulina Braun, Aleksandra Laudańska, Katarzyna Nicewicz, Anna Raciborska, Małgorzata Sokołowska, Kira Sukhoboichenko and Karolina Skowron‑Baka. Past recipients list names such as Irena Sendlerowa, Anna Ojer, Nicole Sochacki‑Wójcicka, Krystyna Janda, Wanda Traczyk‑Stawska, Małgorzata Szumowska, Katarzyna Kasia and Sylwia Gregorczyk‑Abram, and Dominika Lasota.
